All 50 states in the U.S. have adopted the IBC (International Building Code) at either the state or local level as the prevailing building code law. The IBC codes require key mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems in critical buildings to withstand significant seismic events and still operate properly.

When a product is designated a seismic system component, its manufacturer must supply a Certificate of Compliance stating that the equipment will meet the applicable seismic design criteria.
